April Brennan

CHARACTER NAME: April Brennan
NICKNAME: Brennan, Ape (she really doesn't mind and will often make monkey noises in response to this one)
PB: Blake Lively
AGE: 23 24
PARENTS: Athena and Logan Brennan
SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Heterosexual
AIM/JOURNAL NAME: [info]grey_sky_eyes, no IC aim
OCCUPATION: Real estate appraiser
HISTORY/BIO:

April was delivered to her father directly after her birth. He was surprised, and dating someone at the time - imagine the girlfriend's reaction to her boyfriend being an unsuspecting father.

Disinclined to have a child thrust upon him, Logan released April to a local fostering service. He wasn't ready to be a daddy, and he wasn't ready to give up his life for a child that had resulted from ... well, a fling, if his suspicions regarding her birth were correct.

Despite her shaky beginnings, April seems remarkably well-adjusted. A perceptive child even from a young age, she could tell she was different. When the other toddlers went down for a nap, she wanted to color, to draw. Most of the time, she did sneak out of nap rooms, or hid under the teacher's desk to color or draw or otherwise entertain herself in the quietest ways she knew how.

Reading was a challenge for her, but she was focused and determined and over time she made it less of a challenge for herself. She did try to be a good student since she was already starting out with a black mark against her (of course, every child from a foster home was a bad seed and unwanted as far as the schools were concerned), but it was difficult. She had a lot of energy and no where to direct it.

By the time she was in third grade, April had learned constructive ways to vent her energy. She'd race around the playground at school, engage in high-energy activities with different groups of students (because no one group could keep up with her level of exuberance) and in that way she learned to be a very social creature. Never one to turn down a potential friend (though her mind translated that to 'ally'), April was friendly to just about everyone unless they gave her cause not to be.

April met with her first monster when she was nine. It was something of an accidental encounter while she was on her way home from school. She was pounced by what witnesses claimed was "an overly large doberman", but she saw as something quite, quite different.

It meant to kill her, no question. April didn't think her way through the event, she simply reacted her way through it. She managed to get her hands around the monster's throat, to flip it off of her, and to bear her weight on its throat until it ... well, it wasn't dead when she left it, but it was definitely out of commission. After that, she kept an eye out for any strangeness. She did see a few other strange creatures, but none encountered her.

When she was twelve, she had a slightly more aggressive encounter. This time, it was a trio of small monsters. By then, she'd started carrying around a switchblade (though she had to replace it on numerous occasions when it was confiscated by nosy teachers at school). Fortunately, there were no witnesses this time, because she wouldn't have been able to explain how the things had faded into dust.

Shortly thereafter, she moved to a different school when she transferred to yet another foster home. April never had trouble making friends, and this was no exception. Happy to chat up anyone who wanted to talk, she accidentally let something slip about her heretofore secret monster encounters. She was overheard by someone who knew better, and arrangements were swiftly made to ensconce her in the safety of camp.

Finally, she was at a place that felt like home. April was claimed before her first year had passed and she engaged in the typical camp activities. She loved training - she finally had a real way to burn off all her energy.

When she was eighteen, she decided to give college a try - and did so. She studied architecture and real-estate with a backup minor in art. Finding a practical use for hr inborn skills, April went into real-estate appraisal and was good at what she did. However, with the recent rise in attacks, she's decided to head back to camp to see if anyone needs her help - and to see what's changed in the years she's been gone.

STATUS: So so so so so good

TRAITS/ABILITIES:

Good with numbers, skilled in close and ranged combat as well as mounted combat. Prefers throwing blades to most other weapons, however, and never goes anywhere without a set strapped to her arm. She also has a knack for looking at a building and inherently knowing where the structural weaknesses are.

April is also a gifted artist. She's very proficient at animal artwork - especially birds.

She is ADHD and moderately dyslexic - through hard work and extreme focus she worked on that aspect of her demigod brain so she could go farther in school and so reading wasn't quite the challenge for her as it was for others. She still prefers reading in Greek if she can and doesn't read books for pleasure in any other languages - it gives her a headache.
